Fun Stuff

  • Use this sentence to start a scene:

He hadn’t showered in six days.

  • Did you include all the things you thought made a novel interesting and fun to read? Did any of the "Magna Carta II" items stealthily sneak into the pages of your story? Doesn't it seem like such a long time ago when you made your Magna Carta lists?! It sure does to me.

Oh, and check out today's Stump the Librarian. It coincidentally talks about the original Magna Carta! Pretty cool.

Happy Last Day of NaNoWriMo Everyone!

  • Novel idea:

How will life be different in ten years?

    Twenty? One hundred?

Do cars fly? Do dogs talk? Write a novel about the future as you see it!

  • Novel idea:

Take two genres that you really like and combine them. Write a Sci-Fi Western! Or a Mysterious Fantasy novel.

Or combine as many as you can. Write a Sci-Fi-Fantasy-Mystery!

  • Novel idea:

Write a novel about discovering something completely weird about your hometown.

Is there a quicksand pit behind the grocery store? An old troll living in the park? A portal to another world inside the post office?

  • Novel idea:

Take characters from famous fairy tales and make them your own.

Take the three little pigs to the moon. Make Hanzel and Gretel famous scientists. Is Goldie Locks an undercover cop?

    You decide!

  • Find a book you are not familiar with in your house, or at the library, with cover art that you think is interesting.

Without reading anything about the book, make up the story that you believe is inside the pages of the book.

  • Novel idea:

    What do you daydream about?

A different life? A trip around the world? A pizza the size of your hometown?

Write about the perfect world, and what would happen if you got everything you ever wanted.

  • Go to the local mall with a notebook and a pen, and find some interesting-looking mannequins.

Make up stories about them. Do they come alive when the people go home? Are they really mannequins, or real people frozen in time?

What do they say to each other? Write some interesting dialogue between them.

  • Novel idea:

What if you were a famous mythical creature like a werewolf, a vampire, a unicorn, a fairy, or Bigfoot, etc.

Put yourself in their shoes and let the story develop.
