Hello, Wrimos!

If you've participated in NaNo before, you might have heard of 30 Covers 30 Days. If you haven’t…do we have a surprise for you! This is going to be bigger than any new binge-worthy Netflix show! And it’s still pretty exciting even if you have heard of it before!

What is 30 Covers, 30 Days?

30 Covers, 30 Days (or 30C30D) is an event that happens every November, in which lucky participants are selected to receive a unique cover for their NaNo novel. This year, 22 lucky participants (17 from the main site, 5 from YWP!) will be chosen!

These covers come courtesy of the talented, professional graphic designers that our amazing 30C30D coordinator, Debbie Millman, has recruited.

Each designer has 96 hours to design a cover, and one of these covers will be posted every day of November on the NaNoWriMo blog, forums, and Instagram!

Some of our past covers can be viewed here.

How do I get a cover from a professional designer?

Just fill out this nomination form! It should be noted:

  • Your real/legal name is not required. If you have a preferred name, pen name, or any other kind of name you would like to use, feel free!
  • If you make any mistakes, feel free to edit your previous submission! Make sure you send a copy of the form to yourself at the very end. If you want to remove your submission altogether, please go back in the form and check off the box that asks for removal at the very end.

What's the community feature?

We’ve noticed a lot of you are talented designers in your own right and we wanted a chance to showcase those designs. This cover can be one you’ve created in your own free time or a cover someone created for you in the Art Class forums. Ideally, 8 designs should be chosen!

How do I submit to the community feature?

All you have to do is fill out this form and submit an image of the cover design!

Here’s something super important to keep in mind:

  • Please make sure both the artist and writer are aware their cover art/novel is being submitted! We know that in the YWP forums, getting cover art is usually a gift from another participant. As a result, please make sure you have permission from the artist or writer before submitting! Send them a message in the original Art Class forum thread, perhaps. (Of course, this doesn’t apply to you if you designed your own cover.)

Can I submit to both forms?

Sure! But you won’t be picked for both.

Can designers submit more than one design?

Sure, if they're for different writer! But we won't pick more than one design from one person.

Can I use AI Images in my cover design?

In general, the goal of participating in NaNoWriMo is to motivate yourself to write and give yourself space to develop your creativity. We want to carry that idea onto any visual art presented here as well! It's less about a sophisticated end project and more of the fun journey you took, isn't it?

Furthermore, AI image generators can run into some very specific legal and ethical issues. Here’s a few articles if you want to learn more about this topic!

Given these concerns, we're asking both professional and community designers to not use AI generated images for their submissions.

The submission form will remain open until November 15th. If you don’t quite know what your novel is about yet, don’t worry! Take a week or two to figure it out, and then submit! There’s no priority based on submission date.

If your novel is selected, we’ll get in touch with you through email for final permissions, and to make sure that all the info is up to date.

So what are you waiting for? Submit your novel and/or cover designs today!
